From July 10 – 14, 2016, the Third International Sociological Association (ISA) Forum of Sociology on ‘The Futures We Want: Global Sociology and the Struggles for a Better World’ took place in Vienna. 24th IPSA World Congress of Political Science
On July 23-28, 2016, the 24th IPSA World Congress of Political Science ‘Politics in a World of Inequality’ was held in Poznan, Poland. The event was organized by the Polish Association of Political Science and the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of Adam Mickiewicz University. Over 3000 researchers, scholars and experts in political science and related fields from over 100 countries (including lecturers, students and doctoral students from HSE Faculty of Social Sciences) took part in the event. Plenary meetings, over 600 research panels as well as lectures by renowned experts, dedicated to topical issues of world policy and political sciences, were held during the congress.

This summer Helsinki hosted the large annual conference of the European Association for the Study of Religions. HSE and the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences cooperate in new EU-funded PhD fellowship program

BIGSSS–departs (doctoral education in partnerships) is a full-time international PhD program co-funded by the European Union. It provides close supervision of dissertation work in a demand-tailored education and research environment at the University of Bremen and Bremen’s Jacobs University.

Public Policy Programme – Ten Years and Growing

On June 24, as the entire world was reeling from the Brexit vote, the centre of Moscow saw another farewell taking place at HSE, albeit one considerably more festive in nature. This was the 10th anniversary of the Public Policy programme at HSE where 35 graduates received their diploma after two years of hard work to earn their coveted Master’s degree in Public Policy.

The Journal of Economic Sociology has been accepted for inclusion into Scopus

The Journal of Economic Sociology has been accepted for inclusion into Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. The Journal of Economic Sociology has successfully gone through a review process and evaluation governed by The Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB), with the participation of international experts. Integration of the Journal of Economic Sociology’s content into Scopus coverage is expected in the near future.

International Conference ‘State and Political Discourse in Russia’ Held in Venice

On June 17-18, Venice hosted the International Conference ‘State and Political Discourse in Russia’, organized by the Italian Foundation for Reset Dialogues on Civilizations (ResetDOC). The HSE was one of the co-organizers of the conference, together with London School of Economics and Political Science, Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies (Harvard University), and others.

'What Is interesting in Russia Is the Mixture of the New and the Old'

Professor Graeme Gill from University of Sydney has conducted the seminar on ‘Symbolic politics and social constructions of past’ at HSE Moscow. He presented the paper ‘Symbols and Post-Communism: an inherent ambiguity?’ and talked about how the transformation of communist regimes created an imperative for the development of a new system of symbols to legitimise the new status quo.
