The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the most multidisciplinary faculties in the HSE. It is the product of uniting the faculties of sociology, applied political science, psychology and public administration, which are now schools, and a series of laboratories, research centers and institutes. This kind of synthesis of education and research in the sphere of social sciences is a standard part of global best practice for a modern research university.
We train researchers, analysts and practitioners of sociology, political science, psychology and management, and specialists in education, demographics, public policy and civil society. Our primary strategy in teaching bachelors, masters and doctorate courses is to prepare students to meet global demands and requirements as successful professionals.

The Faculty of Social Sciences brings together leading specialists in sociology, political science, psychology, public administration, education, public policy, network analysis and other fields.
The faculty includes a number of institutes, laboratories and centres engaged in both traditional social science and relatively new and developing areas such as neuroeconomics, cognitive neuroscience and social neuroscience.

Faculty staff members chair the editorial boards of the leading Russian leading academic journals. In addition, our scholars are members of the editorial boards of leading international journals: American Political Science Review, British Journal of Sociology, Culture and Psychology, European Journal of International Relations, Journal of Community & Applied Social Psychology, Journal of International Public Administration, Mathematical Thinking and Learning, Social Forces, Studies in Philosophy and Education etc.
In 2018, the faculty’s staff published over three hundred articles in leading Russian and foreign journals that are peer-reviewed in Scopus and Web of Science. They include journals with a high impact factor, such as: Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience; The Lancet; Public Administration Review; Psychological Science; Problems of Post-Communism; Annual Review of Sociology; British Journal of Social Psychology; Gender and Society; Europe - Asia Studies; British Journal of Sociology; International Journal of Social Research Methodology; Social Science Research; Frontiers in Human Neuroscience etc.
Our colleagues present at leading Russian and international conferences and congresses on social sciences. Faculty members chair Russian and international expert boards, as well as committees of Russian and international scientific and research organizations. Our professors have also received both Russian and international awards for their scientific achievements.
