People have already submitted their applications to Master’s and Bachelor’s programmes at HSE University. So far, students from 113 countries have expressed their interest in studying at HSE University. For the 2019/2020 academic year, HSE University is offering 10 Bachelor’s programmes and 31 Master’s programmes taught entirely in English. The strongest applicants will be eligible for full or partial scholarships. For Master’s programmes, applications will be evaluated on the strength of the portfolios that can be submitted online via an applicant’s personal account on HSE University’s website.

Felipe Vaca Ramirez and Paco Arevalo Reyes, both from Ecuador, are second-year students in HSE’s Master’s programme in ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’. Having heard about Russia’s rich mathematical tradition and the high academic standing of HSE, they both decided to study in Moscow despite how far away from home it is. Felipe and Paco share a background in economics, and the HSE programme’s focus on statistics and data and network analysis was a huge draw for them. Affordable tuition fees and multicultural environment were additional bonuses.

HSE offers several scholarships that allow international students to cover part of their tuition fees in both undergraduate and graduate programmes. Scholarships are offered as a tuition discount for international students and take effect at the time of their enrolment in HSE. The scholarships are granted for the full period of studies.

In 2019, HSE is launching a new master's programme in Russian Studies that will be taught in English. Admissions for international students have already started. Boris Makarenko, the programme’s Academic Supervisor, spoke with the HSE News Service about the features of the new programme.

On 26 December, NRU HSE hosted the defence of a dissertation for the award of an HSE PhD in Public and Municipal Governance. The first PhD in this new specialist field was awarded to Alexander Larionov, Junior Research Associate at the HSE Institute for Public Administration and Governance.

HSE is launching a new Bachelor's programme in Russian Studies. While the programme will be taught in English, it is intended not only for foreigners but also for Russian students. On November 20-24, Salvatore Zappala, Associate Professor of Organizational Change and Development, University of Bologna, School of Psychology, is visiting HSE Moscow as part of the programme of cooperation between HSE and the University of Bologna. Professor Zappala and Evgeniya Kravchenko, Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences, shared their expectations of the visit with HSE News Service.

The Higher School of Economics has significantly improved its position in the U.S. News Best Global Universities subject ranking in mathematics, placing 107^th this year. HSE also rose in the U.S. News Best Global Universities institutional ranking, as well as the social sciences and public health subject ranking.

HSE has improved its position in two Times Higher Education (THE) rankings compared to last year. The university demonstrated the greatest growth in the Social Sciences category, rising from the 175-200 group to 126-150. Additionally, HSE improved within the 101-125 group of the Business and Economics ranking.
