Researchers from the CSRA spoke at an international conference in Tanzania
On March 1-3, the scholars of the Center for the Study of Stability and Risks Analysis (CSRA) and Saint-Petersburg School of Social Sciences HSE University took part in the international academic conference "The Place of Africa in the World: The Past and the Present" which was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at the Russian Center for Science and Culture. This conference was devoted to a wide range of research topics and brought together experts from various fields. Beside scholars from Russia and Tanzania, researchers from India, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Holland presented their papers. The conference drew great attention of the Tanzanian academic community.
The scholars from the HSE University were among key speaker at “Modern Africa: Challenges in Political Life.” section. The presentations touched on such topics as factors of socio-political stability in African countries, the causes and consequences of military coups in the Sahel region and Islamist activity in the Horn of Africa.
The scholars of the CSRA and SPb SSS joined other sections of the conference as discussants. First of all, these were sections touching upon Russian-African cooperation, the role of Africa in the system of international relations and the problems of the colonial legacy and neo-colonialism that the African continent faces. This event contributed to strengthening ties between the academic communities of Russia and Tanzania, and also helped to find common ground with research teams from other countries that participated in coference discussions. In addition, the Russian Center for Science and Culture organized the exhibitions to introduce the history and culture of Russia to African participants.
