Three HSE Journals to Be Indexed by Scopus

Three HSE journals — Public Administration Issues (Voprosy Gosudarstvennogo i Munitsypal’nogo Upravleniya), Psychology. Journal of the Higher School of Economics (Psychologiya. Zhurnal Vysshey Shkoly Economiki) and The Russian Sociological Review (Sociologicheskoye Obozreniye) — are to be indexed by Scopus. The editorial boards of these journals have already been officially notified by Elsevier.

‘Growing a Person-Centered Society in Europe’, Symposium in Switzerland

From April 15 th  -17 th , 2016, a symposium entitled ‘Growing a Person-Centered Society in Europe’ took place in Lausanne. It was organized by the Network of European Associations for Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling (PCE Europe). Veniamin Kolpachnikov, Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology of Personality, who participated in the symposium, shared some details about the event.

From April 7 – 10, 2016, the 74th annual Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) Conference took place in Chicago. The MPSA Conference is one of the most respected events in the political scientists’ professional community. Papers in over than 80 sections in various political science research areas were presented at the conference. The conference attracted over 6,000 political scientists, economists and sociologists from 70 countries, including Nikita Savin, lecturer at the HSE School of Political Science.

Book by HSE Scholars About Wandering Workers Nominated for Award

The book ‘Wandering Workers. Mores, Behavior, Way of Life, and Political Status of Domestic Russian Labor Migrants’ has been nominated for the Distinguished Scholarly Monograph Award in the American Sociological Association’s Section on Labor and Labor Movements .

Christian Frohlich has been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies of Civil Society and Non-Profit Sector since 2014. This year he is being fast tracked for tenure in the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences in the School of Sociology. Dr Frohlich has a DPhil in Sociology from Leipzig University, Germany. He spoke to HSE English News about his research into civic activism in Russia and about why he likes living and working in Moscow.

South Korea Adopts the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard: A Question of Resources or Institutional Pressure?

On December 9, as part of a seminar run by the HSE’s Laboratory for Studies in Economic Sociology, there was an opportunity to meet Kyungmin Baek, new Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, School of Sociology, who joined HSE in September 2014. In a report about South Korean firms’ comprehensive adoption of the ISO 14001 environmental standard, Baek explained how businesses’ motivation has changed.
