Yevgeny Ivanov spoke about the history of political and legal thought in the North Caucasus
The CSRA research fellow presented his report at the Lomonosov conference, which takes place from April 10 to 21 at the Moscow State University.
The main provisions are:
- The North Caucasus has its own centuries-old intellectual tradition.
- The impetus for its formation was the penetration of Islam into this region.
- The North Caucasian schools of thought continued their development after the region became part of the Russian Empire, retaining their features to the present.
- Since the 19th century, two major trends have emerged within the framework of the North Caucasian intellectual tradition: the first is an Islamic project, the second is ethno-national projects.
- Still, the controversy is between the supporters of these two approaches.
