Working Group Holds Its Fourth Seminar on the Shift in Russian Legislative Discourse on Family Values

The Working Group on Russian discursive space on national security convened its fourth seminar on December 28. This seminar featured discussions by group members on a preview of research into the evolution of traditional family values rhetoric in the State Duma.

Presented by working group member Maxim Mitskevich, the research concentrated on parliamentary debates surrounding key legislation. This included the 2013 bill that banned propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors, which was later expanded in 2022 to encompass adults.

Additionally, the research delved into the rhetoric shift from 2022 to 2023, focusing on a comparison between the aforementioned bill and the 2023 bill that prohibited legal sex changes. The seminar also included a discussion where valuable feedback and suggestions were made to enhance the research. Further, the integration of this research's findings into other projects of the Working Group was explored.
