Theoretico-Methodological Underpinnings of Russian Foreign Policy Discourse Research: Constructivism in IR and the Notion of 'Ontological Security'
The Working Group on the discursive dimension of Russian foreign policy-making is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar focusing on the theoretico-methodological foundations of Russian foreign policy discourse research. The seminar will take on Feburary 8th at the 232 auditorium, 18:10 (Myasnitskaya, 20).
This event aims to delve into the nuances of constructivism in International Relations (IR) and explore the concept of 'ontological security.' Researchers from the Working Group will present several key articles underlying the WG's methodological framework, providing a deeper understanding of the theoretical basis of our study, including:
- 'Discursive Institutionalism: The Explanatory Power of Ideas and Discourse' by Vivien A. Schmidt
- 'Misrecognition, Ontological Security, and State Foreign Policy: The Case of Post-Soviet Russia' by Tanya Narozhna
- 'Russian Identity and the “Pivot to the East”' by Olga Malinova
- 'What Can Russia Teach Us About Change? Status-Seeking as a Catalyst for Transformation in International Politics' by Andrej Krickovic
During the seminar, we will also engage in a thorough discussion about the progress of our Research Group and the ongoing work of the project.
