On October 20th 2011 the winners of a competition organized by the HSE Innovation and Enterprise Office were announced, with the successful entrants going on to visit the National University of Singapore from January 13th – 20th 2012 as part of a student exchange programme.
A Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship Policies in Central and Eastern Europe has been published in the UK. Alexander Chepurenko, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Economics, is the author of the chapter on 'Entrepreneurship and SME policies in fragile environments: the example of Russia'.
An international Summer school organized by the HSE Laboratory for Entrepreneurship Research and the Netherlands Institute for Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship (NIKOS) at the University of Twente (Enschede), the Netherlands, was held this August. Alexander Chepurenko, Academic Supervisor of the Laboratory and Dean of the HSE Faculty of Sociology, told us about this school.
From August 1st – 5th, an international Summer School on East-European studies took place at the Higher School of Economics. This time, participants discussed the influence of the global economic crisis on the politics and economies of Central and Eastern European countries.
This year the Sociological Review journal celebrates its 10th anniversary. Alexander Filippov, its Editor-in-Chief, Head of the Center of Fundamental Sociology, HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, told us about the mission, history and authors of the journal.
On November 9th the Russian Ministry of Education and Science officially announced that the HSE and the George Mason University, among others, were winners of a contest organized in 2010 as part of the joint Russian-American university programme. This autumn a delegation from the U.S. Department of Education visited the HSE to discuss the prospects for cooperation. Boris Zhelezov, Deputy Vice Rector of the HSE, told us about the results of the visit and new directions of interaction.
On October 29th the results of the open public competition of the Ministry of Education and Science for financial support of research conducted under supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities were announced. Fedor Bogomolov, Professor of Mathematics at the New York University, and Ronald Inglehart, Professor at the University of Michigan Center for Political Studies, will both receive grants for research work at the HSE.
The Higher School of Economics has won a second
grant in the programme of collaboration between U.S. and Russian universities.
From July 26th - 30th the VIII International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) Congress took place in Stockholm. The event takes place once every five years and brings together researchers from Russia and East Europe.

Huntington Memorial Symposium on Culture, Cultural Change and
Economic Development took place at the HSE. It was organized by the
Cultural
Change Institute (the Fletcher School, Tufts University, USA) and the
Higher
School of Economics. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with the
Symposium participants.
