The aim of the study was to identify differences in the effects of different groups of factors on trust in political institutions in democratic and non-democratic societies. All factors influencing political trust were divided into three groups: institutional (perception of corruption and democratic electoral procedures), sociocultural (democratic and authoritarian values) and psychological (needs for justification of the system and needs for self-determination).

The empirical basis for the study was the results of the seventh wave of WVS and V-Dem indices for 2017-2022.
