Research Paper Competition Winners Can Get a Headstart on Their Academic Careers

The application period for HSE’s Student Research Paper Competition has started. The winners will have an opportunity to take part in workshops on academic skills development, while those in state-financed studies will improve their chances of seeing their academic scholarships increased. Also, in addition in HSE students, learners from other academic institutions are eligible for this competition.

The final days of the academic calendar at HSE include a range of activities that serve as the culmination of a learning marathon that each student, regardless of discipline or programme, has worked hard to complete.  The Department of Public Policy’s international Master’s programme saw its own marathon come to an end with a graduation ceremony on June 29. An unforgettable event for both students and faculty members, the graduation ceremony saw students awarded with diplomas in recognition of their readiness for the world as professionals well equipped with the skills to function in an increasingly globalized world.

A project developed by a group of three HSE psychology students received the award for best biotech project at the Entrepreneurial Breakthrough of the Year competition held by the Skolkovo Moscow Business School. A grant to study at Skolkovo was awarded to Andrei Kislov, Egor Levchenko, and Egor Selivanov for their work on neuromarketing technology that determines the subjective cost of a good based on electroencephalographs.

On January 29, Thomas Espy, a student in the Population and Development Master’s programme at HSE, presented a report entitled ‘Mapping Xenophobia in Russia’. During his presentation, he highlighted his paper’s linear analysis of xenophobic attacks in the Russian Federation and a network analysis focusing on nationalist groups, as well as recommended areas of focus for Russian policymakers.

Social Sciences Student Becomes Best Young Journalist 2015

Artem Zemtsov, master’s student in Applied Politics won the XI All-Russian young journalists competition ‘Challenge - XXI Century’. He took first place in the ‘Politics and Economics’ category for his series of interviews with the representatives of left-wing and radical left political movements in Russia.
