Neuroscientists Know How Much You’re Willing to Pay for Something
A project developed by a group of three HSE psychology students received the award for best biotech project at the Entrepreneurial Breakthrough of the Year competition held by the Skolkovo Moscow Business School. A grant to study at Skolkovo was awarded to Andrei Kislov, Egor Levchenko, and Egor Selivanov for their work on neuromarketing technology that determines the subjective cost of a good based on electroencephalographs.

On January 29, Thomas Espy, a student in the Population and Development Master’s programme at HSE, presented a report entitled ‘Mapping Xenophobia in Russia’. During his presentation, he highlighted his paper’s linear analysis of xenophobic attacks in the Russian Federation and a network analysis focusing on nationalist groups, as well as recommended areas of focus for Russian policymakers.

In October 2015 HSE and GS Group signed an agreement to work together on educational initiatives. One of its priorities is a student project to create working models for a smart city. The results could be used to make innovational infrastructures for small cities in Russia.

Social Sciences Student Becomes Best Young Journalist 2015

Artem Zemtsov, master’s student in Applied Politics won the XI All-Russian young journalists competition ‘Challenge - XXI Century’. He took first place in the ‘Politics and Economics’ category for his series of interviews with the representatives of left-wing and radical left political movements in Russia.

From August 17 – 21, 2015, a regional conference of the International Geographic Union entitled ‘Geography, Culture and Society for Our Future Earth’, took place in Moscow. Ekaterina Mikhailova, doctoral student at the Department of Spatial Development and Regional Studies, and participant in the conference, shared some of the most interesting ideas she managed to discuss during the event.

Music and Politics
On 17th June in the Professors Hall at HSE Ilya Mochalov, second year Politics student at HSE and fourth year music student at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, gave a solo piano concert. Ilya has won a number of Russian and international prizes at music festivals and competitions. At the concert he played works by his favourite composer, Sergei Rakhmaninov.

Geoenergy Policy Club Field Study in Moldova

From January 29 – February 2, 2015, second-year political science students of the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences, together with students of the MGIMO Faculty of Political Science, went on a field trip to Chisinau, Tiraspol, Comrat, and Taraclia. The purpose of the expedition was to study the territorial identities of Moldova’s different ethnic groups.
