On January 31st – February 3rd 2016, the Winter School of the Faculty of Social Sciences was held at the ‘Voronovo’ Learning Centre, HSE. During the event, potential master’s students took part in master classes, business cases and meetings with students and graduates of the faculty’s educational programmes.
ReadSquare talked to Sanjay about the programme «Political Analysis and Public Policy» he is lecturing in. It appeared, that students from the programme are supposed to solve problems public servants are failing to cope with. Sanjay is also in charge of organizing the Winter School. How to gain knowledge in the most informal set up during the breakfast and lunches? Winter School is the right place for it.
In October 2015 HSE and GS Group signed an agreement to work together on educational initiatives. One of its priorities is a student project to create working models for a smart city. The results could be used to make innovational infrastructures for small cities in Russia.

Political Analysis and Public Policy is the most popular Master’s programme among HSE’s international students. It draws people with professional experience as well as those fresh from Bachelor’s degrees to do research. Indra Prasetya Adi Nugroho is one of the 2015 new Master’s graduates. He came to HSE from a job in the Indonesian government.
From June 7−12, 2015, the International Summer School on Sustainable Development of Urban Agglomerations took place as part of HSE’s cooperation with the Institute of International Education (Fulbright Programme). The summer school was organized by the HSE School of Public Administration together with the Fulbright Programme in Russia. This summer school was a continuation in a series of joint summer schools held with the Fulbright Programme (2012 and 2013) devoted to various aspects of theory and practice in sustainable development.
HSE has entered the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015 in the top 51-100 in Development Studies, and is the only Russian university in this category.
Brazilian student Vicente Giakaglini Ferraro has been interested in Russia since childhood, when he started learning Russian on his own. He is now studying in the Higher School of Economics’ Applied Politics master’s programme. In an interview with the HSE News Service, Vicente discusses what drew him towards Russia, why he chose HSE, and why he is happy when it is cold.
