Valeria Utkina’s lecture in the Sakharov’s Center

On October 18, the Sakharov Center hosted a lecture by Valeria Utkina, senior lecturer at the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences.

Hollywood scandals have drawn attention to the problems of sexual and other types of harassment and discrimination. Bright news made possible the discussion of the so-called sex scandals in the public sphere.

But scandals and exciting news have less common with everyday life. Gradually culture of protection from harassment has been developing in Russia.

Harassment includes a wide range of abusive personal treatment practices. Russian people due to specific language features often synonymously use the words "harassment", “molestation” and "sexism", etc., implying sexual contact. However, this is not always the case.

During the lecture, we will discuss the conceptual apparatus, learn how to properly conduct a dialogue on such topics, find out why the problem of harassment is gender-sensitive and clarify why special regulation of such issues is required in public administration bodies.

Video of the lecture is available on the link (in Russian).#mce_temp_url#
