HSE Enters 13 QS Subject Rankings

HSE Enters 13 QS Subject Rankings
The Higher School of Economics has made it onto 13 subject and two subject area rankings in the QS World University Ranking thanks to the university’s achievements as part of the Project 5-100. In addition, HSE was in the top 100 ranking for three subjects – Economics & Econometrics, Politics & International Studies, and Sociology – and it was the only Russian school in the Accounting & Finance 101-150 ranking. As for total number of subject rankings, HSE was third in Russia.

Whether states can ever contribute to progressive social transformation has long divided the left. But is this division dependent on a particular state conception? If the state can be meaningfully conceptualised in multiple ways, are there ways of conceptualising that might bridge this political divide, granting the state a constructive part within radical left politics? This essay adopts a utopian conceptual methodology to consider more politically hopeful ways for reimagining what it means to be a state.

It is increasingly common for scientists to engage the general public in dialogue and involve people in research rather than communicating with them in a haughty or condescending manner. We are witnessing the hybridization of research institutes: researchers are more actively collaborating with the media, civil society, and the customers for research, HSE Associate Professor Roman Abramov and Senior Lecturer at the Department for the Analysis of Social Institutions Andrei Kozhanov noted in an article.

HSE Lectures for Students in Germany on Gender in Russia

On 20th and 27th May, colleagues from the HSE Department of Sociology gave lectures at the Free University of Berlin.Olga Simonova Associate Professor at the Department of General Sociology and Evgeniya Gol’man, Lecturer in General Sociology, talked to students on the Master’s programme in Eastern European studies about gender relations in Russia. Their visit to the Free University was part of the project to internationalise the Masters in Sociology in the Public Sphere and Social Communications which is supported by the Potanin Foundation.

HSE to Join SESS.EuroPhD Consortium

The European PhD in Socio Economic and Statistical Studies was initiated in 2001 by Sapienza Università di Roma. The programme is currently coordinated by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and brings together seven universities, including the University of Haifa, the University of Southampton and the University of Tampere.
