On July 1, 2013, the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP) held an international political conference ‘Democracy and Meritocracy: Are the Two Principles Compatible?’, in which international and Russian experts took part. Participants included Sergey Karaganov, Honorary Chairman of the CFDP; Andrey Melville, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Politics; Steven Holmes, Professor at New York University; and Shlomo Avineri, Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
On July 10, 2013, HSE Rector, Yaroslav Kuzminov, took part in a press conference on the results of the competition for government support for leading Russian HEIs to enter the world’s top 100 universities.
From April 2 – 5 the HSE, with the support of the World Bank and IMF will be holding the XIV April International Conference on Economic and Social Development. Andrey Yakovlev, deputy head of the committee, told us about the preliminary programme of the forum.
Alexey Zakharov, Associate Professor in the department of Advanced Mathematics in the HSE Faculty of Economics, is a member of the Committee of the European Political Science Association - a professional community of specialists who apply a variety of different methods in their analysis of the field as it is understood today.

On May 21st 2012, Robert Aumann, Nobel laureate in economics and Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, spoke at the HSE on ‘Rule Rationality vs. Act Rationality’. The lecture was organized by the NRU HSE together with the Embassy of Israel in Russia.
On May 15th 2012, a meeting with Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General of the United States, and Loretta Lynch, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, took place at the HSE. The event was organized by the HSE together with the Transparency International Russia Center for Anti-Corruption Research and Initiatives and the Moscow Compliance Club.
Leading British newspaper, The Independent, has published a list of the 10 best atlases, which includes the atlas created by a team of authors from the HSE Faculty of Politics.
In 2011, the School of Integrated Communications was launched within the HSE Faculty of Politics. The School’s Head, Sergey Zverev, told us about education at the School and its future plans.
On August 1st at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, the XI International summer research school Baltic Practice began. This is an annual event organized by the HSE Department of Public Policy. Nina Belyaeva, Academic Supervisor of the school and Head of the Department of Public Policy, told us about the schedule of the practice and the new areas of research which are being carried out as part of it.
