Critical theory, interpretivism and policy narratives' analysis

How systematic is our understanding of policy narratives? After a lot of work on analyzing them in the Moscow policy debate, our colleague Viktor Albert tried to summarize some of the weaknesses of the approaches and methods of narrative analysis.

Critical theory, interpretivism and policy narratives' analysis

To understand a narrative, we sometimes need not only to have common cultural code with its author or authors, but also to be immersed in the context of what is happening. Narratives do not exist in a vacuum, they are full of references to certain events, they change over time and depend on specific interpretations. Humor and satire can coexist with different hidden messages, and the communication format can play a decisive role in how strongly a particular narrative is supported. In his presentation, Viktor Albert, a member of our scientific and educational group, associate professor of the Department of Politics and Governance of the Faculty of Social Sciences, drew attention to the moments associated with criticism of the NPF and tried to translate this criticism into a more constructive direction - how we can continue researching policy narratives to addres the criticism?
