HSE University has retained its position in the Top 100 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, otherwise known as the Shanghai Ranking, in sociology and mathematics. The university improved in political science and has also placed in the same group in economics. At the same time, HSE moved to the next group in management and entered new subject areas – psychology and business administration. HSE is the only Russian university ranked in four subjects: Sociology, Management, Business Administration, and Political Science. HSE University is Russia’s leader in economics and ranks in the same group as Moscow State University in mathematics.
For the third year in a row, HSE University ranks among the 75 best universities in the world in sociology and is Russia’s only representative in this subject; for the second year in a row, the university ranks in the Top 100 in mathematics (76-100 group). In political science, HSE University has moved up into the 101-150 group, and in economics it retained its place in the 151-200 group, ranking as the best Russian university in these subjects.
Last year, HSE University was included in the subject ranking for management for the first time, something which no Russian university had previously achieved. This year it has improved its standing and advanced to the 301-400 group. In two new areas – business management and psychology – HSE placed in the 301-400 and 401-500 groups, respectively. Previously, no Russian university was represented in these subjects’ rankings, and HSE was the only university in Russia to do so this year.
In total, 15 Russian universities entered the Shanghai Ranking in 27 subjects, including 11 participants in the Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100.
This year, 54 subjects in the natural, engineering, social and medical sciences, as well as the humanities, were included in the ranking. In total, 1,700 universities from 86 countries were listed in the ranking.
