Roman Karikh spoke at the II International Educational Forum (IEF)
From November 26–29, the 2nd International Educational Forum (IEF) was held at Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in Moscow with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Research intern Roman Karikh of the International Laboratory for Social Integration Research gave a presentation at the Forum.
The forum aims to create conditions for knowledge exchange, the development of new approaches, and the identification of strategic directions for international cooperation in education. It brought together over 300 experts from over 40 countries.
At the "University Library of the Future" section on November 27, Roman Karikh presented a paper titled "Transforming the Role of Libraries in the Context of Open Science: Prerequisites, Barriers, and Prospects," based on one of his research publications prepared as part of his PhD dissertation.

The presentation examined the leading role of libraries in the academic debate on open science in Russia, which is emerging in line with global trends. Using a reconstruction of library perceptions, Roman described the transformation of their role in the context of open science. The presentation emphasized that open science, as a result of technological progress, poses a challenge for libraries, complicating the scientific environment. This encourages libraries to build their strategic development on the foundation of open science and redefine their place in the information ecosystem of the future. The key conclusion of the presentation was that libraries' leadership in the debate on open science in the Russian scientific field is not simply driven by competition for resource ownership, but is existential in nature, amid the risk of libraries being displaced from the process of scholarly communication.
The discussion raised questions about the need to recognize authors' contributions through the use of various types of licenses, the possibilities for developing open access resources with and without libraries, and ways to integrate libraries into the research process, for example, by inspiring scientists to conduct research at the early stages.
