ILSIR postgraduate student Saikot Ghosh has successfully completed the preliminary defense of his PhD dissertation!

On May 21, 2025, a joint meeting of the ILSIR and the HSE Department of Sociology was held, during which the preliminary defense of the ILSIR  postgraduate student Saikot Ghosh took place.

On May 21, 2025, the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted the pre-defense of Saikot Ghosh's dissertation on the topic "Conceptualization of social movements of Bangladesh Post-2013: a comparative case study of five movements". The study was carried out in the scientific specialty 5.4.4. (22.00.04) "Social structure, social institutions and processes".
The pre-defense was held in the format of a joint meeting of the Department of Sociology and the International Laboratory for Social Integration Studies of the National Research University Higher School of Economics. The event was held online in English.

The scientific supervisor of the work is Roy Chowdhury Arnab, PhD, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

The event began at 17:00 and was held in a constructive atmosphere of scientific discussion. During the pre-defense, the author presented the results of a long-term study of social movements in Bangladesh after 2013, presenting a comparative analysis of five key movements. Particular attention was paid to devoted to the methodological approaches and conceptual framework of the study.

The reviewers gave a number of valuable recommendations for further improvement of the study, especially in terms of expanding the theoretical base and deepening the analysis of empirical data.

Following the meeting, a decision was made to admit Saikot Ghosh to defend his PhD thesis. Congratulations!
