Postgraduate Seminar by Ekaterina Dolgova and Maxim Gurin
Dear colleagues, We invite you to participate in the postgraduate seminar of third-year postgraduate students of the International Laboratory for Research on Social Integration, Ekaterina Dolgova and Maxim Gurin. The seminar is held as part of the seminar program of the International Laboratory for Social Integration Research.
Ekaterina Dolgova, topic: “Institutionalization of Inclusive Processes in Modern Museums through the Example of People with Disabilities” — 5:00 PM
Abstract of Ekaterina Dolgova’s presentation:
Over the past decade, the development of museum inclusion in Russia has been so rapid that it has made it possible for people with disabilities to participate as visitors and employees, leading to the formation of museum inclusive communities. The seminar will focus on discussing the draft of the candidate dissertation, which examines the institutional foundations of inclusive activities in museums aimed at working with people with disabilities.
Based on 50 in-depth semi-formalized interviews with museum employees responsible for developing inclusion and accessibility, as well as with people with disabilities working in museums, it has been shown that the introduction of inclusion in the Russian museum field has initiated institutional processes that have transformed the museum as an organization. It has been established that the institutionalization of inclusion in museums is a complex process requiring overcoming multi-level institutional barriers that hinder the implementation and legitimization of new social rules and roles in the organizational structure of the museum. The seminar will present the theoretical and methodological foundations of the research, as well as preliminary results obtained so far.

Maxim Gurin, topic: “Inclusive Living Space for People with Intellectual Disabilities” — 6:00 PM
Abstract of the presentation:
The seminar will discuss preliminary results of studying the inclusive living space for people with intellectual disabilities. The presentation will problematize and conceptualize this notion using sociological theory. The seminar will attempt to synthesize various concepts to describe and explain the structure of projects for educational supported living for people with intellectual disabilities in Russian cities.
In particular, it is proposed to discuss the possibilities of integrating various concepts into a unified theoretical and terminological framework: the concept of space (Henri Lefebvre, Kim Dovey, Setha Low), the social model of disability (Anna Lawson, Angharad E. Beckett), values (Natalie Enik), practices (Volkov, Kharkhordin, Wittgenstein), взросления (Andreeva), and neighborhood (Brednikova).
