Public Policy Department Holds 2015 Graduation Ceremony

On June 11, 2015, the graduation ceremony for students of the Public Policy Department took place in the presence of distinguished professors and senior university administrators, including Vice Rector for International Cooperation Sergei Erofeev, Ekaterina Sintsova of the International Admissions Department and Dmitry Balkunets, Director of the Centre for Alumni Affairs.

The event began with opening remarks by Professor Nina Belyaeva, Academic Director of the Master’s programme ‘Public Policy and Political Analysis’. She spoke about what it means to be a superior student and the scholarly journey that forms students of the programme during their two years of study.

One example is Indra Prasetya Adi Nugroho of Indonesia who successfully adapted to the university atmosphere, enjoying Russian culture with his friends. Over the course of two years, he was one of the best-performing students, earning the distinctive Red Diploma. Others earning the Red Diploma for overall academic excellence were Yulia Rudt, Ruslana Kozubekova and Daria Chernysheva.

The ceremony to award diplomas was preceded by a video highlighting memories shared by the graduates during the two-year programme. Diplomas were handed individually to recipients by their Academic Supervisors, each of whom offered unique words for their graduates.

After receiving their diplomas most students, overwhelmed with joy, spoke about how the Master’s programme had helped them to change and expand their horizons.

In remarks after the ceremony, Sergei Erofeev, Vice Rector of HSE, reflected on the internationalization process at the university and thanked the Public Policy Department for its great contribution to the increase in the number of students coming from abroad. Erofeev also stressed the global standards of teaching and research that the Public Policy Department adheres to. Those successfully completing their Master’s programme have now become HSE ambassadors in their respective places of work.

Professor Carol Leonard, one of the longest-serving foreign professors at HSE, is currently teaching first-year students at the Public Policy Department. She spoke about her own graduation many years ago and how impressed she is by the fast growth in the number of international students that the Public Policy Master programme is able to attract.

Dmitry Balkunets, Director of the Centre for Alumni Affairs, added to the festive environment by bringing each of the graduates special souvenirs bearing the HSE logo, allowing everyone to take pride in marking themselves as HSE Ambassadors.’
