Nuclear Energy Safety and Public Awareness: A Round Table Discussion at Public Policy Department
On April 27, a meeting with the delegation from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the experts on ASEAN took place at the Department of Public Policy. The topic of the discussion was 'Nuclear Energy Safety and Public Awareness'. The participants also talked about the policy of ZOPFAN and NFZ for security & peace building and about Indonesia as an actor in ASEAN. The event was organized by HSE Public Policy Department and moderated  by Vice Chair of the Department Sanjay K. Rajhans. Students of Public Policy Department took active part in the event.

Presentation of the Book 'Revolution as a Concept and an Event'
With golden leaves carpeting the floor, and the entire city of Vladimir in the prime of autumn, the Chair of the Public Policy Department Prof Nina Y. Belyaeva was invited to deliver a guest lecture organized by the International Discussion Club 'Spasskiy Holm' on November 7. The venue was the Center for Culture and Arts (formerly known as The Hall of the People and the Noble Assembly of the city). The discussion was centered around a monograph published by the Institute of Philosophy, ‘The Revolution as a concept and as an event’, and the theme of the meeting was ‘Revolution: A view from the present’.

Migration Expert Stresses Importance of Diversity Ahead of Panel on European Refugee Crisis

On October 22, the HSE Public Policy Department and the Course on Comparative Migration Policy will hold a panel discussion on the European refugee crisis. Dr. Mahama Tawat, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and a specialist in comparative migration policy, will serve as one of the panel members. Dr. Tawat recently spoke with the HSE news service about his research interests, what attracted him to HSE and his views on tolerance and diversity.

New Book Examines Impact of Civil Society on Policy in BRICS Countries

On October 9, the Public Policy Department presented a new book entitled ‘Policy impact of civil society in BRICS countries: best practices influencing policy-making’, which was published by HSE with support from Oxfam under the EU funded project ‘Empowering CSO Networks in an Unequal Multi-Polar World’.

HSE to Provide Platform for Discussion of Civil Society Influence Strategies in BRICS Countries

Which methods and practices do civil activists use in BRICS countries? Why and under what conditions can they be effective? What can Russian civil society learn from civil society in India or Brazil, and vice versa? These issues will be discussed at a conference to be held on May 19 jointly by the HSE Public Policy Department and Oxfam, an international non-governmental organization. Registration for the seminar is open to Russian and foreign experts, researchers, students and representatives of NGOs.
