Open online lecture "Global Policy Advisory Systems" by Dr. Leslie Pal
The existence of “global public policy” is now widely recognized, both in formal terms (e.g., internet regulation) and as international standards and norms. Without a formal world government, however, the sources and processes of global policy-making are complex and multi-dimensional, branching out well beyond formal treaty-making bodies in the UN system. Of particularly interest in this presentation is the generation of policy advice and what we call “global policy advisory systems.” In this presentation, which is a part of our master's programme course Global Actors in Public Policy, Dr. Pal highlights some of the results of a three-year study of these systems, and current work on the role of global policy summits such as the World Economic Forum and the Doha Forum.

Any student or 2020 graduate of a Russian or international university is eligible to take part in the Student Research Paper Competition. Papers can be submitted from September 1 to October 15. The competition has been held at HSE University since 2003.

Impact analysis of contemporary Indian social policy
Prof. Sanjay K. Rajhans from HSE public policy department visited the University of Torino in April-May 2019 under an Erasmus+ agreement between HSE and the University of Torino (Department of Culture, Politics and Society, Department of Law, Department Foreign Languages and Literatures and Modern Cultures). During the visit, prof. Rajhans contributed in many activities. He held three guest lectures within the course in Comparative Law in a Global Context taught by professor Francavilla in the master programme on Area and Global Studies in International Cooperation and held two seminars offered to master and Ph.D. students at the University of Torino.

Protest Publics. Toward a New Concept of Mass Civic Action. The book that came as a result of project "Civic participation and social changes" is now published by Springer AG.

This book is the development of the department's research on role and place of public in contemporary socio-political processes around the world with contribution of authors from HSE and foreign universities.

Students visited the United Nations office in Russia
February 16, Master’s students visited the United Nations office in Russia where they had a chance to get familiar with the activities of various UN agencies. In their presentations, representatives of UNDP, UN Information Centre, FAO, and UNAIDS covered the topics, such as the organisational structure of the agencies, previous and current projects in both Russia and abroad, and internship and job opportunities. The presentations were followed by Q&A sessions where the participants raised questions about the agencies’ perspectives on various issues and challenges
