Conference in Budapest

Conference in Budapest
On October 15-16, an international conference ‘Public Service Innovation and the Delivery of Effective Public Services’ was held in Budapest. The event was organized by the National University of Public Service (Hungary) and the University of Edinburgh (Great Britain). S. Osborne and R. Carmen, two  scholars renowned for their innovations in public administration, also took part in the event.  

Gulnara Minnigaleeva Took Part in the Meeting of the Nonprofit Academic Center Council

On July 14th 2015, a meeting of the Nonprofit Academic Center Council took place in Chicago. HSE has been a member of the council since 2012. Gulnara Minnigaleeva presented two reports during the event: ‘Motivations and Aspirations of Undergraduate Public Administration Students in Russia’ and ‘Nonprofit Management Innovations’.

From August 17 – 21, 2015, a regional conference of the International Geographic Union entitled ‘Geography, Culture and Society for Our Future Earth’, took place in Moscow. Ekaterina Mikhailova, doctoral student at the Department of Spatial Development and Regional Studies, and participant in the conference, shared some of the most interesting ideas she managed to discuss during the event.

Researching Public Administration in Different Cultural Contexts

Jesse Campbell, Assistant Professor at the Department of Public and Local Service, speaks about his research interests: from philosophy to public administration. Jesse Campbell grew up in Northern Ontario in Canada. After graduating with a Master's degree in Philosophy, he moved to South Korea to explore a new culture, a path that ultimately culminated in a PhD in Public Administration from Seoul National University. He joined the Department of Public and Local Service at the HSE in the fall of 2014.

Border Policies and Cooperation Discussed in Israel

From December 7 to 11, 2014, an international conference called ‘Borders in the Interface: bordering Europe, Africa and Middle East’, took place in Israel. Organized by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva together with the EU’s 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, the event brought researchers from Europe, Asia, Africa, and America to present research on border cooperation and policies.

Update bureaucracy

There is a problem in the quality of public services because of low staff turnover. Alexey Barabashev, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Public Administration talked to a journalist from “Izvestia” about the reasons for the slow renovation of our bureaucracy.

For the first time specialists in public administration from around the world will come to Russia

On June 28-29th, 2011 the International Conference entitled "Improving the delivery of public services" will be held in the National Research Institute at the Higher School of Economics (HSE). The organizers are the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) and the Faculty of Public Administration of the HSE.

'Political Correctness Constrains Researchers'

From July 26th - 30th the VIII International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) Congress took place in Stockholm. The event takes place once every five years and brings together researchers from Russia and East Europe. This time 14 teachers and researchers from the HSE took part in the Congress, the largest delegation from one institution at the forum. Some participants of the Congress told us about the event.

Housing Policies in Welfare States

On April 7th Peter Boelhouwer gave a public lecture at the HSE on ‘Housing systems in Western Europe: Theory and Practice’. The lecture took place as a supplementary event to the 11th International Conference on the Problems of Economic and Social Development.
