Preparation for the APPAM (Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management) international professional conference has begun at the HSE Faculty of Public Administration. The topic of the conference is ‘Improving the Quality of Public Services’. Conference organizers, Douglas Besharov, Professor at the University of Maryland (USA) and APPAM International Conference Convener Representative, and Alexey Barabashev, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Public Administration, talked to us about the tasks and the programme of the forum.
On March 14
th students, teachers and staff of the HSE met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Uri Rosenthal. The lecture was addressed primarily to the students and was broadcast to all HSE regional branches. Thanks to video conference facilities, HSE students from Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm had the opportunity not only to watch and listen to the speech, but also to ask questions to the minister after the lecture.
On June 28-29th, 2011 the International Conference entitled "Improving the delivery of public services" will be held in the National Research Institute at the Higher School of Economics (HSE). The organizers are the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) and the Faculty of Public Administration of the HSE.

On October 28th and 29th the first French-Russian Conference took place at the Higher School of Economics, involving discussions on double-degree cooperation programmes and PhD and research collaboration in public administration. Is there bureaucracy in France and what should future officials know? Marcel Guenoun, Professor at Paul Cezanne Aix-Marseille 3 University, and Jean Michel Eymeri Douzans, Deputy Director of SciencePo Toulouse, answered those questions.
Elena Guseletova, Head of the HSE Faculty of Public Administration Department of International Cooperation, told us about the results of this year’s summer schools organized by the Faculty.
From July 26th - 30th the VIII International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) Congress took place in Stockholm. The event takes place once every five years and brings together researchers from Russia and East Europe. This time 14 teachers and researchers from the HSE took part in the Congress, the largest delegation from one institution at the forum. Some participants of the Congress told us about the event.
We spoke to Joshua Hawley, Ed.D, Professor at the Ohio University, USA, who came to the Higher School of Economics to conduct longitude research and deliver a course on Educational Policy at the HSE Faculty of Public Administration.
On April 7th Peter Boelhouwer gave a public lecture at the HSE on ‘Housing systems in Western Europe: Theory and Practice’. The lecture took place as a supplementary event to the 11th International Conference on the Problems of Economic and Social Development.
Alexei Barabashev, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Public Administration spoke to us about recent developments in our programme of cooperation with US universities .
