On November 19, the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, where HSE has been member since 2012, gathered for its regular meeting in Denver, Colorado (USA). The meeting focused on issues related to online education, as well as the need to strengthen the international component in the Council’s recommendations on undergraduate and Master’s programmes for non-profit sector professionals. Many universities that are members of the Council take an active interest in student exchanges with Russia and believe it is important to train students to work in any country around the world.
From November 20 to 22, the 43 annual ARNOVA (Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action) also took place in Denver. The conference was entitled ‘Evolving Sectoral Relationships: Global & Local Views’, and its key tracks were the following: NGO management, networks, philanthropy, volunteering, methods for teaching non-profit management, innovation and social entrepreneurship. During the pre-conference of the Teaching Section, where Gulnara Minnigaleeva was Chair Elect in 2014, TED-format presentations were very popular. The key motif of the presentations was education through guidance and practical experience, as well as the need for ‘serious assignments’ for comprehensive education of students (e.g., showing a preference for writing assignments over tests, the need for supervised internships, etc.). Gulnara Minnigaleeva has taken over as the section chair for 2015.
