The Demographic Bomb is a Myth: Andrey Korotaev Reveals Real Threats for Russia and Asia

A demographic crisis linked to an excessive influx of people is not a global threat to the planet. On the contrary, most countries face the opposite problem — a rapid decline in population, explained demographer and Director of the Center for Stability and Risk Studies at HSE University, Andrey Korotaev. In an interview with NewsInfo, he analyzed current forecasts suggesting that humanity has allegedly exceeded the permissible limits of survivability.

Andrey Korotaev debunks the myth of global overpopulation. In his view, the real threat for most countries of the world (Russia, Asia, Europe) is not a population explosion, but depopulation (population decline).

Even in India and China, birth rates are steadily declining. The problem of overpopulation remains only in the countries of tropical Africa. At the same time, global food production is growing faster than the human population, and the planet is capable of feeding far more people than pessimistic forecasts suggest. The main challenge is not a shortage of resources, but their fair distribution.
