Vadim Ustyuzhanin on New Alcohol Trade Restrictions

The researcher at the Center for Stability and Risks Analysis (CSRA) commented to radio station "Govorit Moskva" on the ban on alcohol sales on Sundays and public holidays, which will come into force on March 1, 2026, in the Altai Republic.

"Overall, the effect will be positive: we will reduce alcohol consumption. This practice is quite common in other countries. For example, in the Nordic states. We see that it has shown good results in terms of reducing mortality and reducing consumption. Replicating this practice of restricting alcohol sales will most likely work in Russia as well. Of course, a small percentage of people will travel to other regions to buy alcohol, but the majority of consumers are not willing to spend several hours driving somewhere to purchase it."
