CSRA bridges HSE University and Ghana
In March 2025, Micah Zing, a Junior Research Fellow at the Centre for Stability and Risks Analysis under the Faculty of Social Science at HSE University, Moscow, undertook an outreach and scholarship drive across various regions in Ghana. This initiative was supported by the International Admission and Talent Development Office of HSE University.
The primary goal of this trip was to promote scholarship opportunities at HSE University for Ghanaian students at the undergraduate, master's, and PhD levels. Additionally, the tour aimed to register interested students from various secondary schools in Ghana for the HSE Olympiad entrance exams scheduled for November 2025.
The outreach program covered key regions of Ghana, including Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, and the Bono East region. Several higher educational institutions such as the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Sunyani Technical University, Valley View University, as well as secondary schools including Prempeh College and various schools within the Bono region were visited during the tour.
The program commenced on March 11, 2025, with a visit to the Parliament of Ghana. During this visit, Mr. Zing had the opportunity to meet with high-ranking government officials, including the Minister of Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu. Mr. Zing discussed the purpose of the program and sought the support of the government through the Minister of Education to ensure the success of our initiatives. The Minister expressed strong interest in the project and suggested that similar initiatives be extended to the northern parts of Ghana, highlighting the critical need for such opportunities in those regions.
The tour received additional support from Honourable Emmanuel Agyekum Kwadwo, the Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, as well as local officials including the Bono East Regional Minister and the Bono East Educational Director. The Member of Parliament for Salaga South also expressed interest in facilitating these initiatives for the youth in her constituency.
Throughout the outreach at various universities and secondary schools, Mr. Zing delivered detailed presentations about HSE University, its programs, application processes, and scholarship opportunities available to Ghanaian students interested in studying abroad. Special emphasis was placed on the Olympiad entrance exams, which serve as a gateway to fully funded undergraduate studies at HSE University. He also highlighted programs under the Faculty of Social Sciences, known for their excellence and high demand among international students.
A key highlight of the tour was the significant participation from secondary schools in Bono East, particularly at Nkronza Technical Institute. Over 1,000 pupils from different schools attended the program, with more than 500 students registering for the upcoming Olympiad exams. Prempeh College alone recorded over 800 participants. Several students from Prempeh College who took part in last year's Olympiad entrance exams were officially awarded their respective scholarship packages and admission offer letters from HSE University.
Partner universities also expressed a strong interest in future collaboration with HSE University. The leadership of Valley View University in Accra, led by its Pro Vice Chancellor, engaged in discussions regarding joint academic projects, including scholarship fairs, student and staff exchange programs, and collaborative research initiatives.
The trip concluded on March 15, 2025, at Nkronza Technical Institute in the Bono East Region, where over 1,000 students from six secondary schools gathered for the HSE scholarship drive initiatives program. As with previous events, students actively engaged with the content and registered for the upcoming Olympiad exams scheduled for November 2025.
