CSRA held the workshop ‘Russia and India: Perception of Each Other’
On Friday 18 April, another seminar was held by the Centre for Stability and Risk Analysis. The event was dedicated to the study of Russia's representation in the English-language mass media in India. The keynote speaker was Dimitri Spiridonov, an intern of the CSRA.
Yvgeny Ivanov, Research Fellow at the CSRA, was the main discussant. He suggested paying attention to the big topics (space programmes, nuclear energy, food security, etc.), the discussion of which is impossible without mentioning Russia. He noted that in general the perception of Russia by Indians and India by Russians is positive, but both sides have ‘white spots’ in their knowledge of each other. Vadim Ustyuzhanin and Yegor Fein shared their points on the topic. They gave valuable comments on how to improve the study making it more academic. In particular, Vadim Ustyuzhanin suggested a more structured and rigour approach to the selection of media outlets used in the study, and Egor Fein suggested a more contextualised approach in order to compare changes in discourse in relation to political, social and economic processes.
